Megalechis Thoracata:
The megalechis thorcata , or hoplo catfish, is a fun loving and active fish. It sports 2 pairs of whiskers / barbels that it uses to taste food. These catfish have been known to be very active during feeding time and have been known to disturb slow moving fish, like the banjo catfish (more of that tomorrow), and root up plants. These fish grow to 8 inches, so they must be kept in a 30 gallon or larger in water 75 degrees F to 80 degrees F. Water is not an issue with these fish because they can breath air and will adapt to most water conditions. Breeding these fish is not impossible but it is hard to find a good pair. You can usually tell between the sexes as the male will have a thicker pectoral fins that are orange-ish in color. Lastly, i think these are great fish with great personalities and is a must have in a community tank.
